Want to meet a passionate man who never sleeps due to his enthusiasm for life and constant breaking down of barriers to make the world a better place? Then it’s hard to go past Footys4all’s Volunteer Founding Director Michael Gallus.
Michael was born in Fiji and came to Australia when he was 2. He is married to Amanda and father of three children Thomas, Lily and Benjamin. In addition to founding and directing Footys4all Michael is the Pakistan International AFL Female Coach, primary school teacher, Hero Round Table motivational speaker, Uber driver, community sporting coach, founding director of MGG Educators and Motivators and a Maths tutor to special needs children.
It was through his years of experience as a father, coach and teacher that he witnessed first hand the positive impact that sport had on children and youth. When he turned 40 and had his first midlife crisis, so his daughter told him, he started the volunteer children’s sporting charity Footys4all to distribute hope and a sporting opportunity to children in need. Footys4all gives disadvantaged and under privileged children around Australia and across the world, equal sporting opportunities through the provision of a sporting clinic and the gift of a new ball.
Footys4all is a totally volunteer run organisation and due to its passionate and worldwide supporter network, it has gifted sporting opportunities to over 25,000 children in need in
8 years of operation. Essendon AFL aboriginal legend Michael Long is the Footys4all ambassador, and 2010 Australian of the Year Professor Pat McGorry is a board member.
Footys4all is changing kids lives one ball at a time across Australia and around the world through its volunteer programs in Fiji, Pakistan, Africa and New Zealand.
Michael's volunteer work as the Founding Director of Footys4all has seen him awarded the 2017 Premier of Victoria Champion Volunteer Impact Award, the Pride of Australia Medal in 2016 and nominated for Australian of the Year in 2015.

Welcome to the Get Off The Bench podcast! This first episode is an introduction to the podcast giving you some background information. The podcast is a follow up to the book ‘Get Off The Bench’ written by Kerryn Vaughan, and naturally Kerryn is the host. Primarily this podcast exists to showcase people who have backed themselves and are having a go, in the hope that others will be inspired to ‘get off the bench’ and do the thing they’ve always wanted to do, but even this podcast started very shaky. Enjoy!
